Summary of the Standard Proportions Ratio of height at withers to length of body 8:10 Height Males: 44-50 cm (up to 52 cm is tolerated) Females: 42-48 cm (up to 50 cm is tolerated) Head Skull is flat on top and broadest between the ears narrowing slightly towards the muzzle. The muzzle is straight and strong. Facial furrow (known as the stop) is barely pronounced. Black nose, full set of teeth. Eyes fairly small, round and dark brown in colour. Lively and attentive expression. Medium sized ears set relatively high, falling in roughly a triangular form and rounded at the tips. At rest, the ears lay against the cheeks. When alert they are raised at the base and brought forward. Neck and body Fairly short neck. Muscular elongated body. Chest is large and well descended, reaching to the level of the elbows. Level top-line. Strong relatively long back. Legs straight and strong, placed well under the body. Shoulders slightly laid back and well muscled. Elbows well into the body. Compact rounded feet. Hindquarters Broad, well-muscled thighs; lower thigh approximately equal in length to upper. Solid, short hocks well angulated at joint and vertical in position. Tail:- naturally long with white tip or short tail at birth. Gait Free flowing movement covering ground efficiently. Strong drive from rear. Hind legs track in line with forelegs. Coat Double coat: Topcoat short, close-fitting and shining. Dense undercoat. Tricolour: Black base colour with tan and white markings placed as symmetrically as possible. Tan:- eyebrows, cheeks and muzzle. On either side of white chest and on 4 legs (boots). White:- Distinct white blaze running down forehead without interruption and partially or wholly encircling the muzzle. White from chin over throat to chest and on 4 feet. |
